book review// lost city chronicles

The Most Ordinary of Boys... The Most Extraordinary of Books...   Music from april-2   The Lost City Chronicles Cody Clemenson’s ordinary life is turned upside down when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in an antique bookstore. A secret society emerges to steal the book – willing to kill anyone in its way – and a horrifying monster appears in the night. Cody, along with his best friend, Jade, must flee for their lives. Together, they are pulled into a fantastical world and thrust into the middle of a deadly feud between two mythical cities teetering on the brink of war. In an adventure full of murder and betrayal, Cody must become the hero he always dreamt of being. The fate of the world now hinges on him – and the power of a simple, leather Book. . .   I first read these books about a year ago. Book one: The Legend of the Book Keeper was an easy read and had lots of adventure that kept me wanting to read more. Cody and Jade travel through many cities, break into Area 51, and have lots of other twists and turns. Also, the cover looks really cool and that's what caught my eye...... And the title. The whole story was written nicely and had me wishing I had thought of this amazing idea for a book. Cody was a fun character who had a lot of quirks but they made him very likable. I am re-reading the trilogy now and I like it even better than before.

The Most Ordinary of Boys...   The Most Extraordinary of Books...   When the two collide, a destiny is set into motion which cannot be undone. Without warning, a secretive cult emerges ready to kill, and a horrifying Beast appears in the dead of night - craving to devour the Keeper of the Book. Suddenly, Cody Clemenson is forced to flee with his best friend Jade.  Their journey will lead them to mystical locations and thrust them into uncharted lands, where an ancient feud between two long-lost cities is teetering on the brink of war. Will Cody rise to the occasion and become the hero he's always dreamt of being? Or will he succumb to the power of the evil empire? The fate of the world now hinges on him - and the cryptic words written in a simple, leather Book...
  A Power Long Maintained - Now Faded, A Secret Long Kept - Soon Unveiled, A City Long Lost - Ready to Be Found.
  I actually chided myself after reading it since the next book would come in a week since I ordered from online. #firstworldproblems Book two: City of Gold came in a few days later and I was so excited with the continuing adventure, Eldorado, the Beast, and Cody. By the way, the black hog looking thing is the beast and he is super cool. If he's not trying to murder you. Chasing you. Smelling and tracking your flesh.

//Synopsis

The war has begun. A millennium of growing tension between Atlantis and El Dorado has erupted into violent conflict. Amidst a world in chaos, Cody Clemenson must piece together his own shattered existence. His best friend, Jade, the only constant in his life, has been ripped away and it's entirely his fault. Getting her back will not be easy. The dreaded Golden King's ultimatum is clear: seven days. When the light vanishes on the final day, Jade will be rescued or dead. Cody must band together with a rag-tag company and venture across the treacherous wastelands battling monsters, soldiers, and the brutal elements in order to infiltrate El Dorado and confront the powerful King.
But Cody will soon discover that in the Golden City things are never as they seem; his closest friends may not be his allies and his enemies may not be his most dangerous threat.
Seven days.
The clock is ticking...
But sadly, I had to wait almost a WHOLE year for book three. Again first world problems. Well, this problem was a lot more tragic. Not really. The Earthly Trinity. The last book exceeded my expectations and ended the story perfectly. Battles were fought and the characters were so developed. I had an emotional attachment to them all. Like I had a hard time actually finishing the book. But I did finish it. And I must say, it was amazing. 100/5 stars. (is that even a thing?)

//Synopsis

The armies of El Dorado approach like an unstoppable flood. Outnumbered twenty-five to one, Atlantis hastens to ready its feeble defenses. Meanwhile, the mysterious society known as CROSS, long hidden in the shadows, prepares to make its move, wielding an ancient power that could decide the outcome of the war. Racing against time, Cody wrestles with his responsibilities as the Book Keeper, his imminent duel against the Golden King, and worst of all, the haunting secret he has kept from Jade: the revelation that for the Prophecy to be fulfilled she must die. As the death toll rises and betrayals come from the most unexpected places, Cody and Jade must face their greatest fears to fulfill their destiny, no matter the cost, and save Under-Earth Now May 17th Daniel Blackaby, the author, is releasing the whole series in one large book. It also comes with maps and a 'Return to the Lost City' extra/new book so I am super excited and happy and whatnot. You can find it here. And the best part is its only $10.40 compared to paying $40 or so for the original singles on amazon. So as you can tell, I'm SUPER happy about the extra stuff and re-reading this awesome series. And I'm not sugar coating this. This trilogy is awesome and I highly recommend these books to anyone who loves fantasy, adventure, and all that cool bookish stuff.   And Captain America Civil War comes out in like eight days!!!!! Ahhhhhh. kapitan_1.jpgPlakaty_-_teamcap_2.jpg
 I'm on #TeamCap. So yep, that's a book review and a (very) quick rambling about Cap.
Are you #TeamCap  or #TeamIronMan?
And what do you think of the Lost City Chronicles?

vlog +an excerpt

So here's the vlog I promised y'all!
Please don't be scared away by the occasional cheesy joke and giggles......
Also this took a couple tries. One accidental time-lapse and a few interruptions later we came up with this.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-TL7Sdg0bg]

And here's the excerpt from my novel Scarlet.
I feel hands pick me up. Hold me close.
“Ty-“ I can barely speak.
I hear his voice in my ear, and feel his breath. “Its going to be ok Armelle.”
Visions of light grey and pale pink fill my head as he speaks. His voice is comforting. I shift closer.
My back rests on his lap. Everything is in pain, especially my head.
I look up at him, his hands are wiping my hair from my sweaty face.
Blood.
Its on his hands and I feel it dripping down my face. An irony scent fills my nostrils.
Voices echo on the other side of the room. I hear Lucas calling for the meds, then footsteps.
“Lucas just left to get help.” His voice sounds panicky and I hear a sob behind it. A moment passes then I reach my arm up to his face and try to wipe away my blood that somehow got there. My sleeve is stained with red. I can tell he’s holding his tears back.
Smoke rises behind Tyrese, but there is no fire. That cursed simulator.
“She’s right here.” Lucas’s voice rises above all the ringing in my ears. Everything seems to be slow motion.
I feel my body being lifted onto a stretcher.
“Tyrese.” I wheeze. His hand leaves my own, as the meds carry me away.
Everything is buzzing louder.
Take the pain away.
As I slip away, I hear barely hear Tyrese as he yells my name. But the sounds reaches my ears giving me peace.
Did you enjoy the video? How about the excerpt?
Would you like to see more videos in the future about writing and other stuff?

//The facts//
1// I collect World war 2 stuff

I found the photo of the boy inside an Army hat that I bought. I was so excited when I got home and discovered it in the fold. I slipped and fell on the floor while running around. Best $5 I've ever spent.  I also have more photos of one mans tour but I could do a whole blog post on those pics. Maybe I will in the future.

2// I face swapped with Gollum once.......... It was pretty scary.
3// Ok maybe everyone knows, but I just want to say that Dunkin Doughnuts iced coffee is amazing. I love it a lot. Especially on Mondays when it's ninety-nine cents!!!!!
4// I love shopping at thrift stores and finding good deals.
Goodwills and such are the best.
And when I find a cheap book I get really happy.
5// My brother and I had a lightsaber fight in the middle of Target. It was epic and I sliced off his legs.
6// On one mission trip I went on with my youth group, we went to play laser tag on our fun day. First shot someone took at me was at my face and I guess I freaked out and slipped on the ground.
So yeah a couple people laughed at me.
I laughed at myself while lying in the middle of a battle field.
I am so clumsy.
*hides behind hands*
7// My friends and I ran through the grocery store like raptors. *screeches*
Forgive us Food Lion, it was almost midnight and we had just eaten a ton of sugar. (I'm the one holding the camera)
[youtube=https://youtu.be/8KyaxJJtuoQ]

8// I have seen Hillsong United in concert
Nothing else to say about it except that it was amazing and when they sang 'Oceans' I fangirled. A lot.
9// I always have a book in my purse or backpack unless I was rushing out of the house.
Never leave home without a book.
10// About two years ago I was taking a glass candle jar down from a shelf and dropped it. The wax was melted and was conveniently red. I thought it was wax running down my hand but the glass had cut in between my fingers and blood was gushing out.
I thought I was going to die (dramatic me) and my brother brought me my phone with  the Scott Sterling soccer video. Thankfully I didn't bleed to death.
11// I like love writing in first person, present tense.
It's how I write.

I don't read a ton of blogs so I'll tag the few that I do. And if you don't want to do this please don't force yourself. I wouldn't mind if you said no. And you can opt out if you've already been tagged or did it.

glorying God through music

Music. It's everywhere. Stores, cars, events, phones, etc. We listen through our earbuds, speakers, and we even sing. We play it, talk about it, sell it, buy it, and make it. Some think they breathe it and the notes streams through their veins. But have you ever thought about does what I listen to glorify God? Glorifying God through Music.jpg   Where words fail, music speaks. //Hans Christian Andersen// I must confess, I am a melomaniac. A lot of people are. In our culture almost every teen has some kind of hand held device that holds music. Plus, most even have Spotify, Apple music, or some other form of subscription for songs. You have every single track made at your finger tips. Maybe you are like me and have your earbuds in every chance you get. *raises hand* Guilty. New songs come out every week, and there's constantly a flow of new artists. Christian music could be your main genre, but there could be others you enjoy. Ever since I was a young kid, I've been raised around Christian music. Anyone else remember 'Dive' by Steven Curtis Chapman, 'Flood' by Jars of Clay, or Barlow Girl? (Sorry that was random) Jars of Clay Audio CD-Our Journey So Far: Music speaks to every person in a different way. The lyrics are a poem. You've probably seen the saying 'You are what you listen to'. The reality is that you are. And this brings me to my point. 3c594db575f0e86efdb1b7167f91291b.jpg   Pick the songs that benefit your walk with Christ. Maybe that Taylor Swift song you heard recently that's been playing in your mind isn't the best for growing your relationship with God. Before you listen to a new song that you are unsure about, read the lyrics. Its the easiest way to determine its quality. When you listen to songs you should be concerned about the quality and the quantity. Quality means how its been composed, the artists voice, the insturments. You may prefer alternative sounding songs (That's me), pop, or rock. Or you could like deep songs with hidden meaning (me again) or songs that say it straight out. Quanity is what content it has. Is this song talking about partying and just living like you want, or is it pointing others to God? So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. //1 Corinthians 10:31// In short music is for worshiping God, not for idolizing some artist. If the songs you listen to turn you away from Christ, then they aren't the right kind of songs. I'm not against albums and songs that don't say Christian in the genre. I enjoy 'I see Fire' by Ed Sheeran, songs by Hunter G K Thompson ( who labels most his albums as alternative), and some others. Hunter is actually part of Bethel Music, another good group.   Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. Psalm 98:4 Worship is an inward feeling and outward action that reflects the worth of God. -John Piper- If you want to glorify God with what goes in your ears, you should ask yourself, 'Would Jesus listen to this song?' Would Jesus listen to _________ new album/song? You see what would Jesus do (WWJD) in numerous places. If we are asking what Jesus would do in a certain situation, wouldn't it involve what we listen to as well? 1eb75db23cdca1176c844da4163925ea.jpg   Playing for His glory. There many insturments to play, and most people know how to play a bit of something. I love my guitar. *All my friends nod theirs heads and say 'yes way to much'* Actually I hate leaving it behind so much that when we go on trips I'll give up all my feet space for the case. And many people play the guitar. Maybe it's not the guitar but the violin, piano, bass, drums, ukulele ( which I am trying to play), or something else. One bible verse says that God wants us to play skillfully on strings. And strings probably meant keys, and all the woodwinds plus percussion type insturments. I used to play the clarinet but I've forgotten what the thing you blow into is called....... Play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. Psalm 33:3b Ok, maybe I don't do the loud shouts part, but God created us with this verse in mind. He wants us to enjoy music, to play and sing it for Him. He wants us to praise him with it during the good times of life and in the hard times. Praising God is something we should do frequently. Pick a song and play it, singing with all your heart. You mind on God and Him alone. Ukulele. c83548581f15eb90409c976c1a919a9d.jpg Music Unites us When we sing at church there are many of us all worshiping the same creator. Music binds people together. Unites them. When people get together to play and sing it's a beautiful thing. I remember last summer with another family we are very good friends with. Almost every night we took out the guitar and all sang. We enjoyed singing everything from Toby mac to Hillsong to Veggie Tales. (And I'll be taking out my guitar this year *winks*) We were united. Together worshiping our Designer, Protector, Author, Savior. Maybe you think you have an awful sounding voice that is the equivalent of your dying duck dance. *Ahem* Yeah that might be is me. Well if you are singing for your Creator and not for the person next to you, you shouldn't care. Just don't sing to loud. I'm kidding. Just in case you are wondering (which you probably aren't) some artists I enjoy are....... For King and Country Josh Garrels NeedToBreathe Hillsong United Colony House Drew Holcomb Anthem Lights Btw those aren't in any particular order. Colony house is actually both of Steven Curtis Chapman's sons. And if you do like songs that are more popular outside of the Christian genre, Anthem Lights has tons of covers for different songs and they all have really good voices. Especially Joey...... : Well thanks for reading my ramblings about music and such. Any insturments you play? How about favorite songs and artists? What do you think about asking if Jesus would listen to (blank) song? Also keep a look out for a vlog coming Thursdayish. Maybe wednesday, and maybe the dying duck dance. Maybe.   //hannah//
